Video Gaming Dead In '08: What games are there left to buy?

Ususally its the third year in a gaming console's life cycle does it release the big guns, sometimes later. Nintendo released Ocarina of Time in '98 and Banjo Kazooie. Sony released Metal Gear Solid at that time. In the 2003/2004 lifecycle for the PS2, Xbox, and GCN, we saw Halo 2, Super Mario Sunshine, The Windwaker, Snake Eater, etc. The companies usually put the games out this time because its usually a key time. Around that time, the hype dies

Master Cheif alredy finished the fight Who will fight in for Micro$oft in '08?

But that's not happening this generation. What's odd is that the big guns have already been launched in 2007. Halo 3, Super Mario Galaxy, Mass Effect-massive killer apps really- were released by Nintendo and Microsoft. Sony released UTIII, Ratchet and Clank:Future.

Sure, we all love we got those games right now, but what about 2008? Right now it looks a bit bleak. Don't get me wrong, there are decent titles, but nothing defining. That is except Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Super Smash Bros. Brawl and GTA. But I don't think those games alone are enough (to me they are) to make someone to go out and buy a console. Let's see, Devil May Cry 4 will be awesome. Grand Theft Auto 4 will be awesome too and don't for get about Mario Kart. But these games look more like visual enhancements and stuff we expect.

One odd thing though, is that most of these games are being released towards the first and second quarters of the year. Odd indeed. Games like Resident Evil 5 won't come out until 2009. Don't get me wrong, I'll be happy with these games alone for the year, but I'm concerened about fall.

Maybe there is something, because E3 hasn't happened yet. Perhaps they'll surprise us with new IPs or something. But still, around this time we'd know that games will be out next fall. Per haps its too early to think about it.

But what do you think? Are you just happy with the above mentined games? How do you think fall of '08 will be? Anything else?
