Super Smash Bros. Brawl is probaly the most anticipated game for Wii owners- the hardcore ones at least. Just recently has Brawl gone gold. For those of you that don’t know what that means, it means when a game is completely done and a master disc is sent for the factory to copy. Brawl has been anticipated for over 5 years, but I wonder will its sales reach the hype?
I’m wondering this because gamers have been able to preorder Brawl for a few months now, but there has been nothing earth-shattering about it. Around this time, Halo 3 has had at least 1 million preorders. Sure, the Halo series has a lot of hype, but remember Melee sold around the same amount as the first Halo.
What could be wrong? Maybe the lack of Wii’s? No, because the Wii has sold more than the Xbox 360. Maybe because its mostly casual gamers. It’s really hard to tell at this point.

Mario, you may feel hot, but your sales aren’t.
I’m pretty sure Super Smash Bros. Brawl will sell very well. But I don’t think its going to sell like most people think it will. Look at Super Mario Galaxy’s sales-especially in Japan. It sold way below expectations. Very good if this was an amauetur’s sales but I wouldn’t consider it great because it is the true successor to Super Mario 64.
If Brawl doesn’t sell past a million in its first month or two, then I feel for Wii’s future. As of right now, the software sales suck. Its inevitable that Wii’s hardware sales are going to go down. I work at a video game store and the day after Christmas, Wii’s hype was immediately shot down. We had signs the Wii was in stock, and it took the whole day to sell out. And most people I checked out bought it to sell it on ebay.
I really hope Brawl sales as much as we hope. If it does, I belive the other companies have even more to fear.
